Lollapalooza Berlin Crowning finale of the festival summer
What a finale to the festival season: Last weekend, Lollapalooza Berlin brought summer back to Berlin’s Westend together with over 100,000 fans. The sixth edition of the event on 24 and 25 September thrilled with a strong and almost gender-parity line-up.
After the long-awaited reunion, the organisers would like to thank all visitors, partners and participants. Next year, Lollapalooza will take place on 9 and 10 September 2023.
Dancing crowds, loud fan choirs and breathtaking seas of lights brought the Maifeld to life during the headline shows by Kraftklub, AnnenMayKantereit, Seeed and Die Fantastischen Vier. In addition, on Saturday evening, US pop-punk star Machine Gun Kelly provided for astonished crowds with an energetic show and a helicopter on stage. In addition to the headliners, crowd favourites such as Anne-Marie, Apache 207, Loredana, Casper and Paolo Nutini contributed to great concert moments on the main stages.
In the Olympic Stadium, Perry’s Stage once again unfolded into the biggest EDM dance floor in the country. Thousands of fans celebrated to the beats of international DJ luminaries Tiësto, Robin Schulz, Timmy Trumpet, Purple Disco Machine and many more.
The Alternative Stage and Weingarten Stage were also a hive of activity. High-flyer acts like Nina Chuba, Zoe Wees, Badmómzjay and Provinz drew large crowds to the Alternative Stage with their chart-topping hits, while the Weingarten Stage presented the hottest FLINTA newcomers. The line-up of current trendsetters was large here: Paula Hartmann, Rote Mütze Raphi, Layla, Becks, Dilla, Leepa and others performed in the Weingarten.
In a unique atmosphere, the 2022 Lollapalooza once again succeeded in transporting its audience away from the big stages into a world full of artistry, art, fashion and sustainability. The Fun Fair, Fashionpalooza, Kidzapalooza and Der Grüne Kiez worlds of experience delighted the audience with diversity, all kinds of whimsicality and inspiration. The programme invited visitors to join in and created spaces for exchange and encounters.
This year, the organisers of Lollapalooza Berlin paid special attention to ecological and social sustainability. In addition to the transparent introduction of a sustainability management system according to DIN ISO 20121, visitors were also involved. The public was invited to take part in a sustainability study conducted in cooperation with the Berlin University of Applied Sciences. The results will be included in the sustainability planning for upcoming festivals.
The Lollapalooza Berlin team would like to thank all visitors, friends, sponsors, partners and (volunteer) helpers. Big thanks also go to all the authorities, the operators of the Olympiastadion Berlin and the administration of the Olympiapark Berlin. The festival grounds proved to be a great event space in 2022 as well. In addition, the entire team would like to thank the residents in the Westend who once again accompanied and largely supported this adventure.
