FC Schalke 04 wins the DFB Cup Final
0:5 the final score read, as Duisburg was sent back home from the capital to the Ruhr area of western Germany, the place both teams call home. For the fifth time, the coveted trophy will remain in Gelsenkirchen for the year.
In front of 75.708 enthusiastic spectators from both sides, the teams showed they were willing to give whatever it takes to reach their goals. This tension only lasted until the 18th minute, when Julian Draxler scored for Schalke for the 0:1 lead. The royal blues were in control from there on out. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar underlined Schalkes ambitions to win the match after he converted on a Jefferson Farfan pass for the 0:2 score. 43rd minute: Again Farfan gives the assist, placing a corner kick perfectly for Benedikt Höwedes, who has no trouble converting from short distance.
The second half did not leave any room for speculation or surprises. Schalke dominated the match and goals by Jose Manuel Jurado in the 55th minute and the second goal of the night by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in the 70th minute sealed the victory.
