Heidi Hetzer will follow in the footsteps and attempt to rediscover tracks left by Clärenore Stinnes, who was reportedly the first person ever to attempt a tour around the globe in a car from 1927 until 1929. Hetzer, who after all is 77 years old, is now fulfilling her own lifelong dream: Driving through 58 countries in her 1930 “Hudson” vintage ride, travelling about 100.000 kilometers in two years.
But who is this Heidi Hetzer?
Heidi Hetzer is the daughter of entrepreneur Siegfried Hetzer who had founded a Victoria car dealership in Berlin in 1919 that was transformed into an Opel dealership in 1933. In 1954, Heidi Hetzer, aspiring to take over the family business one day, started training to be a mechanic. After a couple of years of self-employment and a formative year as an exchange student in the United States, Heidi Hetzer returned to work in her father’s business. After her father’s death, Heidi Hetzer took over the family business in Berlin-Charlottenburg at age 31, expanding the company over the years to make it the largest car dealership in Berlin. She retired in 2012.
Heidi Hetzer has become one of the most renowned personalities in Berlin’s economic landscape through her successful entrepreneurship, a race car driver and of course her social commitment. She has become famous beyond Berlin’s borders through her high media presence in newspapers, interviews, talk shows and the like.
The Olympiastadion Berlin wishes Heidi Hetzer a safe and exciting journey around the globe and is looking forward to welcoming her back in Berlin in two years.
