Herbert Grönemeyer enthuses 55.000 fans at the Olympiastadion

55.000 fans celebrated a terrific concert evening with Herbert Grönemeyer at the Olympiastadion Berlin. His „Schiffsverkehr“ Tour stop was accompanied by beautiful weather and Grönemeyer started the evening off rocking with his new single that also bears the name „Schiffsverkehr“. Many classic Grönemeyer hits followed and the spectators were able to sing along and party to „Was soll das“, „Männer“ and „Alkohol“. The new album was also very much integrated into the show and Grönemeyer played a good number of new songs.

Herbert Grönemeyer took the stage that was designed like a ship under sail at about 8:15 p.m. Several video screens hung from towers and made the whole construction seem like a ship in the midst of the Olympiastadion. Two footbridges stretched out into the infield so Grönemeyer could be closer to his fans. Several times, a piano was set up out in between the spectators and Grönemeyer would sing a song or two out there.

The stage was designed by Herbert Grönemeyers friend Anton Corbijn whom he had successfully worked with before during their Hollywood film project „The American“, starring George Clooney.

After about an hour and a half, Grönemeyer bid farewell to his fans with „Zeit, dass sich was dreht“ – the official song of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Surely, some of the spectators thought of the event when they heard the song.
