Draw against Bochum Hertha BSC relegated to 2. Bundesliga
It wasn’t meant to be: Hertha BSC drew 1-1 against VfL Bochum in the last home game of the season. In order to maintain a chance of staying up in the league, the home win was absolutely necessary. Hertha BSC is thus relegated to the 2. Bundesliga for the seventh time in the club’s history.
Two games before the end of the season, Hertha BSC, positioned in 18th place, needed a win. The guests from Bochum went into the game with their heads held high and about 10,000 traveling fans behind them, in order to collect valuable points in the relegation battle. Right from the start, all spectators in the Olympiastadion Berlin were offered an attractive football game with chances for both sides. The first goal came in the second half, however, when Lucas Tousart headed the ball into the net after a Marco Richter corner (63′). Hertha BSC continued to create decent chances in order to score another goal, but to no avail. Ironically, in the 4th minute of stoppage time, Bochum scored through Keven Schlotterbeck for the equalizer.
