New turf for the Olympiastadion Berlin
Beautiful weather in Berlin. The sun was barely up and the first trucks rolled into the Olympiastadion Berlin. Their cargo: 8000 m² freshly cut turf. On Monday, the old turf was scraped off the infield and the area was smoothed for the new turf.
Eleven landscapers of Peiffer company are working to lay down a new turf at the Olympiastadion. Sun, Air and Water are the main factors that define the quality of turf that has grown for more than two years on the turf growers properties. With the opening at the marathon gate, the conditions at the Olympiastadion Berlin are perfect. The easterly winds arrange for a good circulation of air throughout the infield. Water comes from mother nature or if there is no rain, the stadium’s own rain water cistern can provide for more than enough water. The new turf will be in first use when Hertha BSC Berlin play host to TSG Hoffenheim during the last round of Bundesliga play on May 5, 2012.
