Olympiastadion Berlin supports BigShoe initiative

BigShoe is back on the ball. The initiative with their symbolic BigShoe celebrated their official kick-off event on Friday, April 4 at the Olympiastadion Berlin in light of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

The donation campaign was kicked off by EU commissioner Günther Oettinger, BigShoe patron, Dr. Stefan Zoller, member of the Brazil Board of the federation of German industries, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Brazilian ambassadress to Germany, as well as one of Hertha BSC’s youth teams. Hertha BSC is the first Bundesliga club to sponsor the initiative. Günther Oettinger set about to remind FIFA president Joseph Blatter of the responsibilities that come with a FIFA World Cup, taking up Pope Francis’ words to not forget about the people and the children in particular. “We want to show that Germany is capable of much more than just playing soccer successfully”, emphasized the BigShoe patron, Günther Oettinger. 

The BigShoe story: Thanks to generous donations, dedicated doctors are able to provide many children in need with medical help that is desperately required, all in the slip stream of major football events. The BigShoe focus this year lies on a jungle hospital in north-western Brazil that is run by a German priest and three sisters.100 godparents are needed who are willing to donate and raise 250 Euro per operation. In the small town of Coroata, Interplast aid organization doctors will perform surgery on children who suffer from cheilognathouranoschisis.

The Olympiastadion Berlin gladly takes over a sponsorship for BigShoe and wishes the program good luck in Brazil in 2014!
