The supervisory board of the Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH has announced today that Peter von Löbbecke will assume the office of interim CEO of the Olympiastadion Berlin GmbH, effective immediately. The state of Berlin will elect a new permanent CEO after a public job advertisement at a later point. An interim CEO had to be named since the supervisory board had laid off the former CEO Joachim E. Thomas on 29 October 2014, following actions in breach of his duties.
The job will be a home game for Peter von Löbbecke: After the renovations of the Olympiastadion Berlin, he was first named CEO of the operating company on 1 September 2004.
As Olympiastadion Berlin’s CEO from 2004 to 2010, von Löbbecke was responsible for the realization of mega events such as the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2009 World Championships in Athletics. He launched the business branches of hospitality and events, tourism and the site’s media marketing. In addition, he developed new concepts of use and event formats at Olympiastadion Berlin, for example, the Pyronale. His contract at that time expired regularly on 30 June 2010 after it had been extended by the supervisory board in 2007.
